Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Radiation Study for ESCO Pacific (Old ID 22962)
To investigate the current Australian and International Guidelines and allowable EMF radiation limits to provide the regulatory context to ESCO Pacific for their planned solar farm as well as measure the current baseline EMF radiation levels around existing power lines, various locations on the site of intended solar farm as well as in-home EMF radiation measurements in selected surrounding residential properties to assess EMF emission compliance.
Vacuum solution with an IoT-integrated management system. (Old ID 26816)
Vacuum cleaners used in commercial cleaning services have been primarily dominated by corded and cumbersome vacuum cleaners. Although cordless and lightweight vacuum cleaners have been around for domestic users for some time, there ar eno cordless vacuum cleaners designed for commercial cleaning services in the market. In view of this fact, this project aims to develop a new cordless vacuum cleaner for commercial vacuum cleaning services with an IoT-integrated management system.
OPTIMISATION OF THE PROCESSING PLANT FOR GOLD EXTRACTION. (Old ID 27575)
This project with Minjar Gold involves thesis students solving industry related problems. Therefore, the funding provided by Minjar Gold in mainly to cover analysis that will be performed at the AAC. The main objective is to optimise the production of gold covering 3 main aspects: (1) exploring alternatives to slurry dewatering; (2) investigating pump capacity within Processing Plant and suggest alternatives; (3) investigating and modelling the average slurry residence time in the adsorption tanks in different scenarios.
Internet of Things and Big Data Analytics for Cairns Marine (Old ID 26460)
This project will assist to analyse the large repository of data held by Cairns marine in relation to its full operations, i.e., from harvest to husbandry, inventory tracking and sales fulfilment. The physical systems currently in use at Cairns Marine are extensive and complex, involving a range of activities in Northern Australia, all activities on site (including R&D) in Cairns and full product (marine animals) stewardship to destination. A deep and informed understanding of data is required by the business to meet its growing global product commitments.
UCS, Indirect Tensile Strength and 3-Point Beam Tests on MIM Paste (Old ID 22399)
JCU is requested to carry out an extensive series of different tests on 50 mm dia. X 100 mm cylindrical specimens prepared and cured in the geomechanics laboratory. The tests will be in three stages, covering the three different solid contents 74.5%, 76.5% and 77.5%. The tests include uniaxial compression tests, indirect tensile strength and three-point bending. For each mix, slump tests have to be carried out at the beginning, to develop the slump height versus solid content variation.
Fresh and Secure Trade Alliance (FASTA) (Old ID 30029)
FASTA is a national research initiative designed to protect and grow Australia's horticultural exports. Within the overall consortium, JCU is developing smart sensor technologies for a variety of pre- and post-harvest applications. We will develop smart traps for real-time monitoring of insect pests in the field and near-infrared spectroscopy methods to identify the species of insects to contribute to management efforts. We will also develop optical scanning methods to remove infested produce from supply chains. Overall, this work contributes towards a large-scale national effort to improve market access, biosecurity and pest management for Australian horticulture.
Identifying and eliminating future risk from regional Queensland wastewater treatment operations through biosolids technology innovation (Old ID 26919)
This fellowship will investigate emergent contaminant content in biosolids, technological solutions to mitigate its impact and how these new technologies can prevent future emergent contaminant related disasters. Six North Queensland city councils are investing in this research project to implement sustainable biosolids management technologies in wastewater plants to mitigate environmental pathogenesis and impact of new emergent pollutants in the region. This research project is aligned with two of the research priorities of JCU: Tropical Ecosystems and Environment and Industries, and Economies in the Tropics. This project will leverage new funding applications in the field of pollutants mitigation and agricultural industry.

Sensor data collection – Supervisory capacity Machine learning logic for maintaining optimum reaction conditions on a provided hardware network Supervisory capacity Suggestion of industry standards for data collection and fail-safe implementation Suggestion of hardware components and configuration JCU’s scope in this project: Supervise on sensor quality before purchase and calibration logic once installed into PCB Supervise on any errors in the output value and possible causes Supervise on provided network structures for reliably and continuously recording data from multiple sensors to multiple SBC’s to an academic standard Supervise on methods for machine learning collection of data Supervise on methods provided for protecting sensor hardware in extreme conditions Check failsafe methods and data collection failsafes for industry standards requirements Consult on final hardware design for industrial conditional requirements (Industrial standards reports will be gathered prior to consultation, this is a 2nd check precaution) All mathematical modelling, programming, purchasing of hardware and construction shall be completed by JE Pty Ltd
INVESTIGATION OF SLURRY PROPERTIES TO ENHANCE GOLD LEACHING (Old ID 30053)
This project with the Pajingo Mine involves thesis students solving industry related problems. The main objective is to optimise the production of gold covering 5 main aspects: - Investigate chemical additives to enhance the gold leaching - Determine the relationship between leaching rate and slurry density - Investigate chemical additives that could be used to reduce the slurry viscosity - Determine the relationship between particle size and viscosity for slurry with a P80 of 38microns down to a P80 of 10microns - Investigate ultimate settled density of tailings in a Tailings Storage Facility for tailings initially deposited at 40% solids and 60% solids
Virtual Reality 3D First Aid Training Scene Capture Solution (Old ID 23632)
To provide a much more immersive experience for first aid training, the funding body - Rescue Swag is seeking a solution to replace the conventional 2D first aid scene capture solution. This project is aiming at design a 3D stereoscopic shooting solution using the high definition camera, including both system design, hardware and software solutions. At the end of this project, a system will be experience, and improve the training outcomes.
