Biography
Dr. Lewis J. Gooch is a Lecturer of Civil/Structural Engineer within James Cook University's College of Science and Engineering. His research areas include the Design and Performance of Masonry Structures, Structural Reliability under Extreme Loading Conditions, Deterministic and Stochastic Numerical Modelling, and the Behaviour of Civil Engineering Materials.
Dr. Gooch has a focus on industry actionable research, and has attracted industry funding and engagement within the masonry manufacturing and Australian insurance industries. He is the current chair of the 11th Australasian Masonry Conference, sponsored by Think Brick Australia and the Concrete Masonry Association Australia.
Dr. Gooch has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours Class 1) and a PhD (Civil Engineering) from The University of Newcastle, Australia. He is a passionate educator who has lectured at James Cook University since 2025. He is a former Structural Engineering Consultant with Lyndsey Dynan Consulting Engineers (now Hatch), with a strong background in the design and construction of steel and reinforced/prestressed concrete structures.
