Biography
Dr Yang Du is a Senior Lecturer in Electronic Systems and IoT Engineering at James Cook University. His research integrates power electronics, energy forecasting, and power systems to advance renewable-energy integration and the reliable operation of renewable-rich electricity networks. His work spans inverter-based resources, microgrids, battery energy storage, distributed energy resources, and AI-enabled forecasting and control.
Dr Du received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney in 2013. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy and has been recognised in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list. He received a JCU Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2022 and has held visiting research appointments at MIT (2018) and Columbia University (2026).
Dr Du leads an active research group that currently includes one postdoctoral research fellow and three PhD students. He has supervised four PhD students to completion as primary advisor, all of whom have subsequently secured Assistant Professor appointments at universities.
