Biography
Dr. Susan (Sue) Mate (she/her) is a Career Development lecturer at James Cook University in Queensland, Australia. She specialises in designing inclusive professional learning programs that emphasise the importance of intercultrual competency within postgraduate courses at the university.
Sue is involved in research that explore the nexus between professional learning, higher education teaching policy and practice and qualitative research.
Sue's research focuses on:
- The relationship between higher education, career development learning, and workplace learning.
- Creating inclusive environments that foster student success and professional engagement.
Sue is also a member of the Narrative Practice Research Network, which champions lived experience and qualitative inquiry methods of research.
Sue holds a psychology degree, postgraduate education qualifications from Deakin University, and a PhD from Victoria University. She is currently studying for the Master in Guidance Counselling at James Cook University, focusing on coaching postgraduate students to enhance their employability and professional skills. She has held various roles in research, lecturing, career guidance, and mentoring at RMIT University and La Trobe University.
Sue is dedicated to supporting students and colleagues, making a significant impact through her work and research.
