Biography
Dr Klaire Somoray (she/they) is a lecturer in the School of Psychology at the College of Healthcare Sciences. They completed their PhD in 2019 at Queensland University of Technology, within the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety Queensland (CARRS-Q).
Since joining JCU, Dr Somoray has built a research program at the intersection of psychology, technology, and human factors. Their research investigates the intricate relationship between humans and technology, examining how technological innovations shape behaviour, wellbeing, and safety. This program is organised around two inter-connected streams:
1. Technology, Society and Wellbeing: Dr. Somoray work explores how big data, AI and digital media influence mental health, wellbeing, and equity in society. Within this research arm, they are particularly interested in the impact of technology among marginalised communities (e.g., racialised communities and LGBTQ+).
2. Technology, Safety and Human Factors: Drawing from their background in road safety, Dr Somoray how emerging technologies affect human performance and risk. Their work addresses applied challenges such as autonomous vehicles, micro-mobility (e.g., e-scooters), and AI-driven decision systems, with an emphasis on human-centred digital interventions to maximise benefits and minimise harms.
