Using collaborative and inclusive processes, this project will draw on data from Australian social work education providers and their international partners, to document and analyse current international student exchange practices, highlighting key issues and constraints. Merging this data with a critical literature review, the project will synthesise the knowledge created to develop transferable best-practice models in international student exchange. Focusing on enhancing relationships with the Asia-Pacific, this project aims to document, analyse, develop and disseminate exemplary practices in international social work student exchange. The project will contribute significantly to the development of mutually beneficial international student exchange programs and will support Australian tertiary educators to integrate evidence-led, transferable, good -practice principles into core curricula.

The proposed research is a collaboration between Queensland Police Services (QPS) and James Cook university and will lead to a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship due to the Chief Investigators role as the invited JCU representative on the newly formed Community Policing Board which was introduced by the state government this year. The purpose of the Community Policing board is to foster partnerships between the major community groups and QPS in order to identify community based strategies to combat crimes which threaten the property and personal safety of local citizens. This is an opportune initiative considering that Townsville currently has the highest levels of youth crime in the state.

We are seeking funding from the T150 scheme for our research time and the putting on of an exhibition at the Museum of Tropical Queensland. We have support in kind from James Cook University, the Museum of Tropical Queensland, and the Townsville Bulletin. We learn about our community and region partly through the local and community media. In addition history is recorded through the reports of our media. This project will be unique in documenting and drawing together numerous events to reflect on how our local media has shaped our community and identity. The project will complement the work of the T150 Townsville Bulletin projects.

This project aims to strengthen community-led partnerships (CLPs) to improve Indigenous health and well-being using CQI processes. The seed funding will be utilised in bringing together leaders of existing community-led partnerships, and visits with leaders of other identified CLPs, with the aim of identifying and documenting the strengths of existing community-led partnerships, and exploring how CQI processes can improve, support or accelerate best practice in community-led partnerships.

This project will be implemented in conjunction with Baru Conservation Alliance in Malaita, Solomon Islands. Traditional Knowledge and experience of weather, the seasonal interaction of plants, animals and people will be explored and documented. The use of tradiitional 'disaster food' after natural disasters will also be documented. The local scale production of flour from locally grown fuits and vegetables will be piloted; usage and spoilage monitored, and dishes made from flour trialled for acceptability and feasibility with Kwaio tribal groups. The project links food security, health and ecological sustainability to inform local level disaster and climate resilience measures in Malaita, Solomon Islands.
Townsville's Prioneering Road: Objects, histories and stories from pasture to port and prosperity (Old ID 22179)

Townsville's success over Port Denison (Bowen) and Cardwell was due to the Townsville-Dalrymple road, constructed by Melton Black, connecting the port in Ross Creek to the interior. This project highlights the road and its role in Townsville's story through objects excavated from archaeological sites found along it including Stanton House (Flinders St East), the Range Hotel (Hervey's Range) and the Cape River goldfield. The objects will be presented in an online, 'virtual' museum with 3D images. The project will use the objects to stimulate a creative writing workshop and will also include electronic education packs for primary school students.
Enhancing District Delivery and Management of Agriculture Extension in Lao PDR (Old ID 20602)

The primary purpose of this project is to improve management of agricultural extension services in Lao PDR. A JCU team is partnering with the Government of Lao's Department of Agriculture Extension and Cooperatives to research and implement ways of strengthening extension. Organization development and participatory action research methodologies will be used to engage stakeholders from villages, Districts, Provinces and relevant government agencies in the co-creation and implementation of: (a) extension guidelines to match new extension interventions to local needs and opportunities; and (b) Extension Management System tools to assist District Agriculture and Forestry Offices to plan and manage services.
