An Exploratory Study: The Presence of Imposter Syndrome in New Graduate Allied Health Professionals and its Relationship to Location of Practice
This research explores the presence of imposter syndrome in new graduate allied health professionals. Additionally, it examines whether there is a relationship between the rates of imposter syndrome and where an allied health professional works geographically. Findings may help to establish a foundational research focus on imposter syndrome in new allied health professionals.
Parasitic Disease Wastewater Surveillance to Inform Public Health Action in Remote Northern Queensland

Intestinal parasites are chronic preventable infectious disease of poverty which disproportionately affects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in northern Australia. Public Health Surveillance for these diseases is time consuming costly, difficult and intrusive, requiring faecal and blood testing of community members. This project will validate and pilot the use of wastewater testing for the surveillance of important intestinal parasites, including strongyloidiasis, whipworm, giardiasis, and amoebic dysentery infecting people in north Queensland. The use of wastewater sampling will augment the capacity for public health surveillance by facilitating time and cost-efficient parasitic disease surveillance simultaneously in multiple communities.

Weed impacts on ten of the most threatened plant species of the Australian wet tropics

One commonly stated threat to plant species conservation is displacement by invasive plants. However, very little quantitative information is available about the actual presence, abundance, and impact of invasives on individual threatened plant species. We have selected ten of the most threatened plant species of the wet tropics for which there are anecdotal reports of threats by invasives, as reported by the Species Profile and Threats Database. This project will remove or minimise immediate weed threats for ten of the most threatened species in the wet tropics, it will also establish a baseline for measuring impacts of invasive plants on plant conservation, for which there is currently a dearth of quantitative information, and it will develop a weed risk assessment tool to prioritize management interventions for weed threats.
Decoding the genomic basis underpinning Southern Ocean ecosystem resilience to change

This project applies traditional and latest genome sequencing technologies to advance the knowledge of nature's natural evolutionary solutions against climate changes. Expected outcomes of this project include uncovering novel genome structures and gene functions that underpin Southern Ocean species’ adaptation capabilities to climate changes.

Cassowary Coast Green Nourishment Seagrass Program (Stage 1 Feasibility)

Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) will collaborate with James Cook University (JCU) and Traditional Owners throughout the project to look at the feasibility of managing seagrass meadows to enhance coastal protection of foreshores. CCRC will collate existing data to produce a map of seagrass habitat within their LGA and identify areas where data gaps exist for further monitoring. Risk mapping of the CCRC coastline will also identify areas most at risk and likely to benefit from coastal protection measures. JCU working with Traditional Owners will then undertake further mapping of seagrass in areas of interest for potential pilot studies for trailing seagrass as an alternative to hard engineering solutions for coastal protection. The mapping will be presented in a report along with recommendations for coastal areas to be considered for the next stage of the Green Nourishment Program (Stage 2 – Establishment of pilot studies utilising seagrass as an alternative to engineering solutions for coastal protection).
Economic impact of various non-tariff measures (NTMs) on Australian grains industry

This project aims to provide an in-depth analysis on the economic impact of various non-tariff measures (NTMs) with a focus on Australian grains industry and provide comprehensive empirical evidence (and evidence-based modelling tool) to policy makers and industrial stakeholders for mitigating negative impacts and enhancing positive outcomes associated with NTMs. In particular, the project will apply the state-of-art approach (including both the structural gravity model and the computable general equilibrium CGE model) to the product-level data to systematically investigate how NTMs affect trade, production and the overall economic health of the Australian grains sector
