Biography
Research
Jemma King is a Lecturer in the discipline of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Prior to this appointment, she worked as a Research Officer on a number of research projects including falls prevention, bicycle safety, active transport, flood water risk perception and skitching. Her most recent research projects have explored the impact of heatwaves on health systems in Queensland; unintended pregnancy prevention and care in nursing and midwifery curriculum; aeromedical retrievals in Queensland; the barriers and facilitators to the uptake of occupational health and safety practices amongst workers in Australia's primary industries; and the use and perceptions of large agricultural vehicles on public roads. Her primary fields of research are public health, health promotion, injury prevention and safety promotion.
Teaching
Jemma teaches across a range of public health and health-related subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This includes teaching and coordinating undergraduate subjects that introduce students to Health Professional Research and Research Methods. She enjoys bringing her own research experiences into her teaching to expose undergraduate students to the potential for research to improve their practice. Jemma has a Master of Public Health with distinction (with a major in Health Promotion) and a double degree: Bachelor of Business -Bachelor of Psychology (Honours).
