Zinat Mohammadpour

Dr Zinat Mohammadpour is a Research Officer in the College of Medicine and Dentistry (CMD), based at the Cairns Clinical School. She is a medical researcher with expertise in nutrition, preventive health, evidence synthesis, epidemiology, and biostatistics. Her methodological expertise spans the design and analysis of clinical trials, observational studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, with proficiency in STATA and SPSS.

Research

Dr Mohammadpour's research focuses on nutrition and chronic disease prevention, evidence-based healthcare, and health services research. She collaborates with national and international researchers and has contributed to competitive grant applications, research translation activities, and the supervision of medical and health research students. Her work has resulted in more than 45 publications, over 440 citations, and an h-index of 12. 

A major focus of her current research program is the "Dietary Bitterness Research Series", which explores the relationship between bitter taste, diet quality, and health outcomes. Beyond scholarly outcomes, this work has attracted extensive national media attention and contributed to public discussion around healthy eating and nutrition. 

Service and Engagement

Dr Mohammadpour is actively involved in research governance, mentorship, and research capacity building. She serves as a Research Experience Member and lead reviewer for the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), is a member of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Nutrition and Metabolic Expert Reference Group, and contributes to research culture through the CMD Research Seminar Series, the MBBS Honours Committee, MED NORRTH, and the CHHHS Research and Innovation Symposium. She is committed to supporting clinician-researchers, mentoring students, and strengthening health research capacity across northern Australia.
