Biography

Dr Kannan Maharajan is a pharmacist with postgraduate qualifications in Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacology, and over 20 years of experience in academic leadership, research, and curriculum innovation across India, Malaysia, and the UK.

He has led the design and delivery of integrated pharmacy programs across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including BPharm, PharmD, MPharm (UK), and Master in Pharmacy Practice. His teaching focuses on patient-centred care, using simulation-based learning, interprofessional education, and prescribing-focused approaches aligned with international accreditation standards.

Dr Kannan adopts a student-centred, evidence-based approach to teaching, incorporating active learning, blended delivery, and technology-enhanced education to support the development of practice-ready graduates.

His research interests include public health, social pharmacy, and evidence-based practice, with a focus on health literacy, emergency preparedness, and healthcare workforce resilience. He has secured research funding, supervised over 45 research projects, and published widely.

He collaborates with healthcare partners, community organisations, and professional bodies to strengthen community engagement and social accountability in pharmacy education. Dr Maharajan is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and an active peer reviewer.
