Assessing seagrass distribution as habitat for dugong, turtle and fish on Mandubarra Sea Country
The Mandubarra Sea Country project aims to understand and manage crucial coastal habitats and the ecosystems they support. Focusing on expansive seagrass habitats, this initiative partners with TropWATER and involves comprehensive mapping and monitoring along the coast, including the South Barnard Islands. The project integrates high-intensity aerial surveys to study the usage of seagrass meadows by green sea turtles and dugongs, both vital to the ecosystem. Additionally, it includes baseline fish surveys and workshops training Mandubarra Rangers in drone usage and underwater video assessments to monitor and manage fish and megaherbivore populations effectively. This collaboration aims to enhance fisheries resilience and inform future conservation efforts within the Mandubarra Sea Country.
Evaluation of research opportunities and research engagement among junior doctors (Revised)
This project will evaluate the availability and uptake of research opportunities and the level of research engagement among junior doctors in two Northern QLD regional hospitals. The study will recruit a mixed methods approach, including a desktop review, an online survey and focus group discussions and interviews with interns, pre-vocational doctors, hospitals’ research staff and clinician researchers to quantify doctors' level of research engagement and competency, as well as exploring their experiences of research activities. The study outcomes will identify potential strategies that research support services can apply to cocreate a collaborative and productive research environment within a hospital setting.

PRIDE: Promoting queer-inclusive professional identities for diversity in primary healthcare

The PRIDE co-design project aims to transform primary healthcare for LGBTQIA+ individuals by co-designing and implementing an affirming model of care. This model can be scaled up across services to reduce the geographical inequities contributing to intersectional disadvantage. The goal is to improve the consistency and quality of primary care for LGBTQIA+ individuals. We will: 1. Examine affirming care environments and workforce norms via social identity theory to identify change factors to promote secure, inclusive workplaces and affirming care settings. 2. Collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate a thorough model for LGBTQIA+ inclusive primary healthcare. This model will be designed considering intersecting identities and lived experiences, using an established consumer co-designed LGBTQIA+ affirming care upskilling package. 3. Establish a reliable and interconnected network of primary care providers across various professions, ensuring access to consistent, trustworthy, safe and affirming healthcare for LGBTQIA+ individuals throughout the primary care landscape. To accomplish this goal, we will form purposeful partnerships with LGBTQIA+ individuals, healthcare experts, professional associations, and two prominent primary care institutions. The project offers significant enhancements in the health and overall wellness of LGBTQIA+ individuals, including those within the workforce. By specifically addressing the needs of the community, the project builds capacity of the mainstream primary care sector to provide safe and inclusive health services. The outcomes of this research will significantly advance knowledge on key barriers and facilitators of affirming primary care for members of LGBTQIA+ communities and improve access to safe and affirming primary health services for LGBTQIA+ individuals who are currently underserved, including those experiencing intersectional disadvantage.

This project aims to develop a portable electrochemical sensing platform for phosphate detection, offering farmers a practical solution to manage phosphorus levels and improve cattle health.
Workshop in Advanced Genomics Tools to Enhance Korean Aquaculture
The development and delivery of a workshop for Advanced Genomics Tools in Korea (through Jeju National University) for korean students, academics and industry players. JCU academic staff expert knowledge will be taught to the Korean scientific community and industry, with the expectation of reinforcing relationship and create new collaboration with Korea.
FNQ Connect: Connecting people connecting care
FNQ Connect: connecting people, connecting care is a proposed model for disability, rehabilitation and lifestyle services for children, young people, adults and older people in Far North Queensland (FNQ). FNQ Connect will drive a reform agenda to integrate and strengthen existing services in the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) which make up FNQ. Integration of services will reduce preventable hospitalisations and increase social return on investment. FNQ Connect will provide quality care for FNQ people, in the right place and at the right time.
