Biography

Associate Professor Raoul Hecker is Academic Coordinator for Year 4 Medicine at James Cook University's Cairns Clinical School, a role he commenced in September 2026. He also holds a Clinical Track appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Nicosia Medical School, where he teaches in the MPH programme. He is a German-trained physician, board-certified in Occupational Medicine and Public Health Medicine, with additional qualifications in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine, and holds an MPH, an INSEAD MBA and an LL.M.

Before joining JCU, he served as Deputy Head of Frankfurt's Public Health Department, founded and ran the specialist practice Arbeitsmedizin Frankfurt, and held senior international business development roles at Asklepios Kliniken. He has consulted for Joint Commission International, GIZ and the Saudi Ministry of Health.

His research focuses on public health, occupational medicine, medical education and health systems. Current projects address health equity, digital occupational health management and entrustable professional activities in public health training. He is a guest editor at npj Health Systems, Hessen State Chair of the German Association of Occupational Physicians (VDBW) and a board member of the German Society for Public Health and Population Medicine (DGĂ–GB).
