Biography
Leesa Grier, PhD is a Lecturer in Anatomy and Pathology in the College of Medicine and Dentistry, James Cook University, where she is subject coordinator for a number of allied health programs.
I have built my academic career on a foundation of expertise in skill acquisition, athlete performance, coaching, educational management, and talent development. My PhD research focused on optimizing skill development within Queensland Rugby League's talent pathways, and its findings have been shared with professional sporting organizations, published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at national and international conferences.
Skill acquisition lies at the heart of my teaching and research. I am deeply committed to advancing knowledge and practice in this field by designing innovative learning environments that promote skill development. This includes helping first-year anatomy students establish effective, independent learning behaviors and supporting coaches and athletes in achieving measurable performance outcomes.
My current research focuses on development frameworks for sporting organisations, enabling coaches to implement evidence-based practices that maximize the potential of their athletes, and rugby league development programs for women. By bridging the gap between academia and applied sports science, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the evolution of coaching and athletic performance.
