Abstract
The aim of this study was twofold; firstly, to profile the internal demands (i.e. HR and rate of perceived exertion) of officials during sub-elite rugby league competition; and secondly, to identify the impact of match official role (middle referee or touch judge) on the internal demands of officials during sub-elite rugby league match-play. Based upon research conducted in elite populations, it was hypothesised that rugby league officials would exhibit significant physiological stress during sub-elite match-play that would vary according to their role.
