Biography
Dr Leanne Hall is a Senior Research Officer at the James Cook University School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she combines mentorship of emerging scholars with leadership of an independent research line in rural and remote health. In this capacity, she provides strategic guidance to MBBS Honours candidates, serves on the College of Medicine and Dentistry’s Honours Committee and Impact & Evaluation Working Group, and contributes peer reviews for several international journals. She also contributes to the learning and teaching of seven subjects within CMD.
With over 45 peer-reviewed publications, Dr Hall’s work spans basic science, applied research and health services evaluation. In recognition of her contributions to spine research, she received the GRAMMER European Spine Journal Award for Basic Science and Applied Research in 2019. Her doctoral studies in neuroscience included international collaborations on deep brain stimulation in Taiwan, and her recent partnerships extend to Queensland Health and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, focusing on models of care that strengthen rural workforce capacity and patient outcomes.
Beyond JCU, Dr Hall is actively engaged with the Clinical Centre for Excellence in Spinal Pain, Injury and Health at the University of Queensland and the Centre for Innovation in Pain and Health Research, where she advances multidisciplinary approaches to rehabilitation. Her sustained commitment to capacity building, rigorous methodology and translational impact underscores her role as a research fellow dedicated to improving health equity for rural and remote communities.
