Biography

I have been a lecturer in occupational therapy at James Cook University since 2012. I completed a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in 2006 and completed a Master of Public Health (Health Promotion) with distinction in 2011. In 2021, I completed my PhD, exploring the transition of work to retirement and the role of occupational therapy within this transition. This was one of the first studies to explore the scope of practice of occupational therapy in this area.

I have a keen interest in facilitating a positive student experience and in building student capacity to be independent learners and subsequent graduates. I initiate and lead learning and teaching innovations to enhance the first year experience. I also support student learning within all year levels including as Professional Honours co-coordinator and subject/coordinator/lecturer/tutor for third and fourth year professional honours subjects, supervision of professional honours student groups and teaching of the workplace rehabilitation content into subjects within second, third and fourth year. My leadership and expertise within learning and teaching was acknowledged with a 2020 JCU Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.

My research initiatives also relate to my learning and teaching practices along with continuing exploration of the work-to-retirement transition in which I am a primary supervisor of a PhD student. I have an interest in the development of research capacity and confidence within others and as the Occupational Therapy Discipline Research Lead I assist academics within the occupational therapy discipline to achieve this.
