Biography
Deb Smith is a highly experienced Senior Project
Manager and Researcher at James Cook University’s College of Medicine and
Dentistry. Since 2018, she has led and supported a range of strategic research
and implementation projects focused on strengthening health systems, improving
access to care, and enhancing health outcomes in rural and remote communities.
Her current work centres on optimising telehealth processes to inform
contextually relevant guidelines for service delivery. Deb’s portfolio includes
initiatives in place-based health planning, regional training hub evaluation,
pharmacist integration within Aboriginal health services, and remote radiology
service models.
In addition to her academic and health sector roles, Deb has
extensive experience in the community sector. She held a senior project role
within the Communities for Children initiative, where she facilitated
collaborative, evidence-informed programs to support early childhood
development. Her earlier work in Victoria included community development and
financial inclusion initiatives, fostering cross-sector partnerships to promote
social equity and wellbeing in underserved regions.
