Biography
Dr Beena Suvarna is a Lecturer in the College of Medicine and Dentistry at James Cook University and is currently serving as the Secondment Academic Advisor for Years 1–3 in Medicine. She is medically trained and is actively involved in supporting student academic progress, well-being, and transition through the early years of the medical program. Beena commenced her research career in Manipal, India, where she investigated the interplay between tuberculosis and diabetes, developing an early interest in chronic disease and its broader determinants. She subsequently completed a PhD focused on stress and allostatic load, examining the cumulative physiological impacts of sustained stress exposure.
Her current research interests centre on stress and allostatic load, focusing on their long‑term consequences for physiological regulation and mental health. Beena’s work adopts an interdisciplinary and translational perspective, integrating medical training with contemporary research to better understand the long‑term health impacts of stress.
