Biography
Allira is a Lecturer in Social work and humanities education. Her education background is in anthropology, social sciences and social work, and her research comes from an anthropological social work lens. Allira's work has been in crisis counselling and responses to domestic violence and sexual assault in Australian communities, particularly affecting women and children.
Allira has also worked in academic education specifically with First-Nations social work students at numerous universities in Australia since 2010, expanding to working with refugee and CALD social work and humanities students in 2014. Research interests include co-creation of meaningful, culturally integrated strategies to assist students from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations and CALD students, to succeed in social work.
Allira's current research looks at the significance of gendered ritualised spaces such as men's and women's circles for healing, community capacity building and empowerment in communities.
Further research interests include the positive impacts of mainstream and alternative education on the mental health of neurodivergent children.
