Evaluation of an allied health student placement model in a rural primary health care setting
Journal Publication ResearchOnline@JCUThis article reports on the feedback, experiences, and learning of allied health students during their placement in a rural multidisciplinary student-led clinic in Australia. A cross-sectional survey design with convenience sampling was used. Data were collected anonymously via REDCap, using a semi-structured survey to assess students’ experiences during placement. Ten allied health students from occupational therapy, social work, and speech therapy were placed in a rural General Practice clinic between February 2024 and July 2024. The findings highlight that placement in the rural student-led clinic enabled students to learn about discipline- specific and multidisciplinary skills, consider the role of allied health professionals within a rural primary health care center and broaden their understanding of working within a rural general practice.
