Ready to lead? An exploration of principal preparation from a global to local context
Other Publication ResearchOnline@JCU[Extract] The role of the school principal is complex and demanding and requires effective leadership given its influence on a range of important outcomes for schools and students. It is accepted that principal leadership and influence is second only to classroom instruction among school related factors that impact upon student success (Coronel & Fernandez, 2013; Gonski et al., 2018; Dhuey & Smith, 2018; Robinson, Lloyd & Rowe, 2008; Wahlstrom, Seashore, Leithwood & Anderson, 2010; Lynch, Madden & Doe, 2015; Yeigh et al., 2018). The leadership of the principal is therefore critical to school improvement (Coronel & Fernandez, 2013; Fullan 2006; Leithwood, Seashore, Anderson & Wahlstrom, 2004).
