Abstract

[Extract] Tour operators are intermediaries that design, organize, and promote a destination with the aim of subsequently selling holiday packages and sightseeing tours to travelers. Most often, tour operators receive their customers or tour passengers through travel agents, hotel concierge bookings, and public or private corporations. Websites and tour brochures also direct travelers to the tour operators. It is typical for tour operators to manage a fleet of cars, vans, and tour buses of various sizes. The tour operators may also work very closely with tourism authorities to promote the destination in the interests of national objectives. Hence, tour operators play a key role within the tourism industry as they function as intermediaries between the tourists and tourism service providers.
