Addressing adult cyber bullying through the ecological model of human development
Conference Contribution ResearchOnline@JCUThis paper discusses the ecological theory discussed in the World Report on Violence and Health (Krug et al., 2002) as an effective framework for promoting a culture of cyber safety within a higher education institution. This ecology model comprises four distinct yet interconnected subsystems. These subsystems are classified as individuals; relationships; community; and society. The cyber-wellness website discussed in this paper is positioned at the community level, with all subsystems building on and from this level. Information on the site sets the direction for prevention and intervention at the subsystems levels. It is directed toward guiding adults to engage with online technology in ways that promote respect, empathetic understanding and responsibility.
