Sustainable principles versus evolutionary approaches to cultural tourism

[Extract English translation] For the past several decades, the idea of sustainability has been a major force in all aspects of tourism. Culture is one particular area that has received much attention by many scholars and practitioners. Community based cultural or heritage tourism is always affected by a number of internal and external conditions. With the introduction of the concept of sustainability, we are thinking about built-in frameworks for continuity or preservation of heritage or cultural activities for future generations. Given the boundaries between sustainability principles and cultural evolutions, there is an underlying suggestion that all things given, living cultural practices should be museumized with a prescribed degree of community participation so that the combined presentation of their heritage to tourists and the income contributing to their livelihood is balanced and appreciably managed.
