Biography

Dr Steve has both research and industrial experience in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cybersecurity. He has a MEng and a PhD from the University of Bristol’s Department of Computer Science, where he also worked as a Senior Research and Teaching Associate. Since moving to Singapore, he has conducted research into IoT for Industry 4.0, as well as working in a Singapore start-up creating cryptographic security products for IoT devices.

Steve’s research highlights include authoring a chapter titled “Measuring Energy” in the book “ICT - Energy Concepts for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability”, designing a formally verifiable time-deterministic network-on-chip for safety critical embedded multi-core systems, and producing an energy model that enables embedded software developers to understand how much energy their code consumes.

He has collaborated in various research projects, including the EU-funded ENTRA, EMC2 and ICT-Energy projects, A*STAR’s Model Factory @ ARTC, and projects under Singapore National Research Foundation’s National Cybersecurity R&D Programme.

With a history of expertise in systems from the cloud right down to chip micro-architectures, Steve’s current research interests focus on how to make cybersecurity easy, efficient and effective, aiming to create a safer, smarter and more environmentally friendly world.
