Leanne Dalley

Associate Professor Leanne Dalley holds a PhD (Education) together with 28 + years' experience in the field of Education.

Associate Professor Leanne Dalley has held key leadership positions in the discipline of Education at James Cook University, namely: Head and/or Acting Head of Education (2013 – 2017) and Director of Professional Experience and Community Engagement (2010 – 2012). Prior to taking up a position at James Cook University, Leanne worked in both private and public-sector schools in rural/regional and metropolitan contexts and held the position as Head of Department (English).

In her roles as Head and/or Acting Head of Education and Director of Professional Experience and Community Engagement, Associate Professor Leanne Dalley engaged with a range of external stakeholders and industry partners around curriculum development and teaching and learning initiatives pertinent to student practicum experiences. In this capacity, she also operated at the interface between Education at James Cook University and external parties and as the ‘change agent’ within this space.

Collectively, Associate Professor Leanne Dalley’s teaching and research portfolio has concentrated on Literacies in Education, Secondary English Curriculum Studies, Gender and Education, Contemporary Youth and Cultural Issues, Contemporary Pedagogical Practice and Policy, Leadership in Education, Indigenous Education, Initial Teacher Education and Vocational Education and Training.

Associate Professor Leanne Dalley has presented a number of invited keynote conference presentations. For example:

(2018) Critical literacy in the Essential English classroom. Presented at the Vision 2020 – Master Class Conference – English Teachers Association of Queensland.

(2011) Let's stay put for literacy and numeracy: Summarising the journey. Presented at the Let's Say Put for Literacy and Numeracy – Indigenous Education Conference – Department of Education and Training (Queensland). Co-Presenter with Professor Angela Hill.

(2011) Planning for and conducting action research in schools. Presented at the Low SES Conference – Department of Education and Training (Queensland).

(2011) Research & partnerships: The School of Education (JCU) and schools. Presented at the Riding the waves of change: North Queensland Region Leadership Conference. Queensland Association of State School Principals (Northern Region).

Associate Professor Leanne Dalley has also engaged in numerous consultancies with educational stakeholders and the delivery of Professional Development to teachers and leaders working in schools across Australia.

Associate Professor Leanne Dalley has a history of working with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority [QCAA] – previously the Queensland Studies Authority [QSA]. Most recently, Leanne has worked in the role as Tertiary Representative on the Prescribed Texts Working Party (Subject: English) and Scrutiny Panel for the External Assessment Trial (Subject: English).

Institutionally, Associate Professor Leanne Dalley’s work has been recognised by the University, and the then-Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences [FAESS] now-College of Arts, Society and Education, by way of awards including: Advisor of the Year Award in 2012 (JCU), Research Performance Award in 2010 (FAESS), Commendation for Publications Completed from 2007-2009 (FAESS), and Certificate of Commendation for Teaching Performance in 2007 (FAESS).

Associate Professor Leanne Dalley has also engaged in contract research work, as Chief Investigator with Professor Sue McGinty, with Catholic Education (Townsville Diocese) around Indigenous Literacy and Language Learning and as Chief Investigator with Dr Andrea Lynch, with the Department of Education and Training in relation to Mentoring for Literacy Leadership.
