Biography
Global health physician with extensive expertise in tropical and travel medicine and translational research in high and low-income countries, long-standing health system strengthening experience with focus on field based research and laboratory capacity building, overseas clinical supervision and bedside-training, trainer at different levels (community, under- and post-graduate, HDR-supervision), special interest in tropical neglected disease and one health.
Lars Henning MD PhD is Associate Professor for Communicable Disease Control and Tropical Medicine in the Discipline of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
My scientific and academic career has concentrated on clinical research in infectious and neglected tropical diseases with an emphasis on HIV, TB, Leishmaniasis and Cholera/Diarrhoeal Diseases. I have worked several years in leading global health institutions (Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Basel, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, Dhaka, Ifakara Health Institute, Ifakara, and Infectious Diseases Institute, Kampala). Many of my projects in Asia and Africa focussed on the strengthening of laboratory capacity and the transfer of skills to provide best possible care for patients in different settings. I perceive the link between innovative research and clinical services as crucial in the process of innovation, validation and application of health solutions.
