Biography

Kaveh joined James Cook University in 2025 as an Associate Professor in the College of Science and Engineering. He is a Chemical Engineering Academic with specialised expertise in green chemical engineering, an emerging and essential discipline that offers innovative solutions to sustainability challenges and long-standing environmental issues.

Kaveh’s research focuses on developing and applying novel and green solvent systems, particularly Deep Eutectic Solvents, for extracting and recovering high-value compounds from biomass, biowaste, and e-waste. His work advances environmentally benign technologies that align with circular economy principles and promote more sustainable industrial practices.

Research Interests

My research interests lie primarily in the green chemical engineering arena, an emerging area of high significance, since this is the engine that delivers solutions to innovative questions of sustainability and addresses chronic environmental issues. In this important area, I have focused on designing, characterising, and using deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as promising eco-solvents and alternatives to conventional solvents in industrial processes.

Research Specialities:

  • Extraction (Extraction of valuable compounds from biomass, biowaste and E-waste using DESs)
  • Separation and Purification (Purification of biofuels and wastewater using DESs)
  • Catalysis (Using DESs as catalysts in chemical reactions) Waste Minimisation
  • Waste minimisation
  • Resource recovery
  • Bioenergy
  • Thermal energy storage
