Biography
I am an adjunct and researcher with the College of Medicine and Dentistry based in Townsville. I have experience in service development in rural, remote and regional Australia as a researcher, practitioner, and senior manager in government. I am interested in the interactions between health systems, organisations, and communities to improve people's health and wellbeing. I wrote a text book "Working with communities" in 2008 and reworked it in 2015. In 2013-14 I was a volunteer with Australian Volunteers for International Development in Nepal in the Ministry of Health and Population and again remotely in 2021 in Nepal with a small disability organisation. In 2025 I am an Australian Volunteers Program research mentor in Mongolia for 3 months and remotely for 12 months, working with social work staff at the National University of Mongolia. I am on the advisory committee for the Social Work Innovation, Experiment, and Research Centre. My Australian research interests include being chair of the research advisory group for the Hearing Distressing Voices research study (Clinical teletrial) and I was part of a large NHMRC team co-led by Catrina Felton-Bush and Sarah Larkins Women's Action for Mums and Bubs (WoMB). My current interest is in writing with the WoMB team to reflect the great work being done.
