PhD candidate in Information Technology (Affective Computing)

Biography

Arushi is a Ph.D. candidate and researcher in Information Technology (Affective Computing) at James Cook University, with expected graduation in July 2025. She also holds a Master of Information Technology degree (majoring in Business Informatics) from the same university.

She has over five years of experience in designing and deploying AI/ML models for real-time voice-based stress detection and adaptive virtual agents in immersive VR simulations. Her work spans the development of end-to-end machine learning pipelines, from audio signal processing and feature extraction to model training and deployment.

Previously, Arushi has also contributed to projects in chatbot development, natural language processing (intents and basic context mapping) with IBM Watson, data mining, and emotionally intelligent AI systems. She is a published researcher with international conference presentations and is passionate about interdisciplinary research at the intersection of affective computing, voice analysis, brainwave technologies, neural synchrony, and the ethical use of AI in education, mental health, and sustainability.

Teaching

Teaching Interests

My teaching interests lie in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Affective Computing, and Human-Computer Interaction. I am passionate about guiding students through both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of AI-driven systems, ethical considerations and real-world deployment. I would be open to interdisciplinary subjects that connect computing with psychology, immersive technologies including Virtual and Augmented Reality. I aim to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that would prepare students to innovate responsibly in a tech-driven world.
