Biography
I recieved my PhD in medicinal chemistry in 2000 from the University of Sydney. I then undertook postodoctoral positions at The University of Wales, Cardiff (2001-2003), Monash University, Australia (2004-2005), University of technology Sydney (2005-2006), The University of Queensland 2007-2012), where I continue to hold a position as Adjunct Senior Reseach Fellow in The faculty of Medicine.
My academic and teaching roles have included Lecturer in Pharmacy (Griffith University, 2011-2016), Senior Lecturer in Physiology (Queensland University of Technology, 2016-2022), and Lectuer in Medicine (James Cook University (2022-present).
I am an extensive research background, with experience in medical chemistry (platinum anti cancer drugs), synthetic chemistry (phosphine synthesis), and more recently into the chemistry and biophysics of both cell membranes and ion channels. My current research focusses on the role of lipid and cell membrane constitueion on ion channels, includiong GABA_A, where I collaborate with international researchers from Pasteur Instiute, Paris, France, and The University of Cambridge, England.
I have a strong interest in teaching, having gained a Graduate certificate in education, as well as a certificate in online learning from Harvard University, Boston, MA, USA. My current teaching interests are in investigations of student experiences at in the medical field- looking into those from pharmacy, medicine, and dentisty, to investigate cross-collaborative teaching projects that are both relevant, and inclusive across these disciplines.
