Biography
Dr Yu is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Healthcare Sciences
at James Cook University, with a strong background in nursing education,
clinical practice, and health services research. He has extensive academic
experience, having held leadership roles in curriculum design, teaching, and
student support at both James Cook University and CQUniversity. His teaching
portfolio spans foundational and advanced nursing subjects, with a strong
emphasis on professional practice and clinical placement.
As a researcher, Dr Yu has contributed to funded projects that focused on mental health and wellbeing of nurses, pressure injury education, and consumer engagement in healthcare. He has published in high-impact journals such as the International Journal of Nursing Sciences and Collegian, and he also actively participates as a peer reviewer for academic journals. His research is focused on healthcare improvement through nursing practice and education. This includes the exploration and examination of system design, educational interventions, and psychosocial supports that influence nurses’ and students’ readiness to deliver safe and sustainable healthcare. A core aim of his work is translating evidence into practical strategies that improve patient safety, workforce resilience, and learning health systems.
Dr Yu holds a PhD from Flinders University, where his research explored the influence of an Australian healthcare organisation-initiated education program. His academic journey also includes a Master of Nursing Science in Acute Care Nursing, and multiple qualifications that reflect a multidisciplinary foundation.
