Biography

Professor Mark Hamann’s research group explores the biology, ecology and conservation of threatened marine and coastal species, with a strong focus on marine turtles. Their work brings together animal tracking, conservation science and human dimensions research to better understand how marine species use coastal and ocean environments, how people interact with these systems, and how human-driven threats affect marine wildlife. The group supports a large and enthusiastic community of undergraduate and graduate research projects, spanning local and global conservation initiatives. Mark is also actively involved in many state, national and international efforts to develop conservation initiatives that protect migratory species across their entire range. Through this work, the group aims to generate practical science that helps protect vulnerable species and the ecosystems they depend on.
