Biography
Dr Jane Harte is a highly experienced academic and psychologist, with a PhD in neuropsychology awarded by JCU after completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Universities of New England and Stockholm respectively. She developed further interests and a career in occupational and organisational psychology after spending time as an officer in the Australian Army Psychology Corps and has since combined academia with consultancy in industry over many years, specifically in higher education, health, mining and defence.
Since 2015 Dr Harte has worked as part of the Rural Team in Atherton, overseeing the educational experience of medical students on rural placements in Queensland, across Australia and internationally. In 2019 Dr Harte was also appointed Associate Dean Students with the College of Medicine and Dentistry, placing her as the Dean’s delegate on matters relating to professional practice and student support for the disciplines of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy. Through this role, Dr Harte sits on various committees of JCU and the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand. She is a researcher member of the Defence and Department of Veterans’ Affairs Human Research Ethics Committee, a member of the Workforce Planning Committee of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and over the years has participated on various national and state tribunals.
From her early research work in neuroscience and psychology through to medical education, rural medicine, professionalism and student support, Dr Harte’s interests have been varied. Dr Harte’s current research projects are focussing on the resilience of medical students completing rural placements, placement poverty (joint article submitted for publication), and catering for diverse learners in medicine (joint article submitted for publication). She also sits on the Editorial Board of Work: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment and Rehabilitation.
