Biography
Hilary Whitehouse is an Adjunct Associate Professor with of the Cairns Institute and educator with a long committment to researching in science education, environmental education, climate change education, biodiversity education, and gender, exploring the illuminations of new ecofeminism and feminist new materialism.
Hilary is a long time executive editor for the Q1 Journal of Environmental Education ISSN 0095-8964, EISSN 1940-1892.
She is an associate editor for the Q2 Australian Journal of Environmental Education ISSN 0095-8964, EISSN 1940-1892, and is a life member of the Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE).
Formerly the Deputy Dean of the Graduate Research School (2016-2023), Hilary served on the University's Research Education Sub-Commiitte and developed curriculum and pedagogy for research education at JCU.
She served as a full-time teacher educator on the Cairns campus for many years and, with her Department of Education colleagues, invented Science on The Oval (SOTO) in 2003. SOTO has now been going for 20 years.
Currently, Hilary volunteers her time and research skills with the small, anti-extinction NFP, the Bats and Trees Society of Cairns.
