Biography

Dr Ali Işın is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sport Sciences, Akdeniz University, and holds adjunct appointments as Senior Lecturer at the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine & Health, UNSW Sydney, and as Senior Research Fellow in the College of Medicine and Dentistry, James Cook University.

His research focuses on drowning prevention as a critical global public health issue, with a particular emphasis on water safety and swimming education to reduce drowning risk across populations. He completed his postdoctoral research at the School of Population Health, UNSW Sydney between 2025 and 2026, where he worked on research projects related to water safety and drowning prevention. During this period, he contributed to advancing evidence-based approaches aimed at improving swimming education and promoting safer participation in aquatic environments.

Dr Işın is a member of the editorial board of BMC Public Health as of 2024, where he actively contributes to the peer-review process and supports the publication of high-quality public health research. He has been a contributor to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study since 2022, one of the most comprehensive and influential global health research initiatives, contributing to the understanding of injury and drowning-related health burdens worldwide. Since 2025, he has also been a member of the UNSW Beach Safety Research Group, where he contributes to multidisciplinary research focused on drowning prevention and water safety promotion.
