Abstract

Student placements in rural and remote areas are vital to addressing health workforce shortages, improving healthcare delivery, and increasing access to underserved populations (1). They also provide unique educational opportunities for students and deliver tangible benefits to host communities, exposing the future workforce to authentic experiences that can attract them to rural careers. Because these placements span many disciplines, institutions, and community contexts, clear and consistent terminology is foundational to understanding and communicating their value.
