Teacher Talk and Learning in a Networked Learning Community at the Forming Stage
Book Chapter ResearchOnline@JCUThis chapter examines teacher talk and learning efforts within a Networked Learning Community (NLC) in Singapore. In recent years, there has been a proliferation of NLCs at both the national and the zonal/cluster levels across Singa-pore's educational landscape, encouraged by the Ministry of Education, based on the expectation that professional discourse amongst teachers across schools contributes to teacher learning. Presenting our preliminary analysis of teacher discourse within a case study of a newly formed NLC in the early stage of our research, we investigate the nature of teacher talk and what they learnt from their participation in an NLC. The chapter contributes to discussion about ways in which knowledge is constructed through teacher discourse in NLCs.
