We won't pay for their crisis! a critical assessment of trade union responses to the Global Financial Crisis

The Global Financial Crisis (GFC) has had a profound impact on working families around the world. Developed economies seem to have been the hardest hit and still struggle to recover. Governments went to the rescue, with the full backing of organised labour which saw the crisis as compelling argument for a paradigmatic shift in global governance. Yet, such shift did not occur and instead austerity plans are on the agenda for the years to come. While social partnership and fiscal stimulus proved to efficiently alleviate the impact on jobs, this paper critically discuss trade union responses to the GFC raising a politically uneasy question: who paid for it?
