Together we have been working on a NESP funded project to look at how river flows in the Gilbert catchment are necessary for downstream and coastal ecosystems, including fisheries in the Gulf of Carpentaria. I led one component of this research which involved mapping of flood plumes in the Gulf of Carpentaria to answer questions around the fate of wet season flood waters and the resulting primary productivity that drives fisheries and provides food for migrating bird species.
