A Cairns-based research team has joined a world-wide movement studying how seagrass can help capture carbon, to reduce global warming. Dr Paul York, researcher, JCU, says they are working on a project which is part of a collaboration with 350 sites around the world which looks at the effectiveness of coastal habitats in storing and capturing carbon. This is project is called the TeaComposition H2O. The project has a hub off the coast of Green Island, Cairns led by Dr Paul York from James Cook University and it's also aiming to show the world why it's so important, to protect our region's delicate seagrass meadows.
