Nga Vu

Dr Nga Vu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture. Her academic background includes a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Aquaculture followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aquaculture Genomics.

Before her current position at JCU, Nga served as a Research Assistant at the Research Institute for Aquaculture No.1 (RIA1) in Vietnam in the field of sustainable aquaculture and rural development in northern Vietnam from 2008 to 2016. During her time at RIA1 in Vietnam, she focused on developing small-scale aquaculture and environmental-friendly farming models to address poverty in northern Vietnam and applying biotechnology in aquaculture seed production.

Nga was awarded her PhD in aquaculture genomics from James Cook University in 2022, which focused on the development of population genomics tools for black tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) aquaculture and fishery management throughout the Indo–Pacific region.

As a postdoctoral research fellow at JCU, Nga is dedicated to developing cost-effective genomics tools for commercial species within the ARC Research Hub for Supercharging Tropical Aquaculture through Genetic Solutions. The project aims to enhance productivity in aquaculture, improve breeding outcomes, and mitigate disease risks in collaboration with key industry partners.

Her research interests encompass aquaculture genetics and breeding design, applied aquaculture production, the development of cost-effective genomics tools, and environmentally friendly aquaculture farming practices.
