Biography
Nathan Dawes, PhD, MPH, BOccThy, FHEA, FHERDSA, is an occupational therapist and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at the College of Medicine and Dentistry, James Cook University. With clinical experience in aged care, mental health, and occupational rehabilitation across both public and private healthcare sectors, he brings practical expertise to his academic role. He teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate public health courses, including Health Promotion (TM5528) and Health Promotion for Health Professionals (HS2403). Nathan's research focuses on Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR), particularly in the areas of leadership, workforce development, and health service delivery in aged care, mental health, and post-disaster settings. He has a specific interest in developing contemporary competency-based education frameworks for the health professions. Nathan serves on several committees, including as a member of James Cook University's Academic Board, Chair of the CAPHIA Competency Renewal Project, and Chair-elect of the Practitioner and Industry Engagement Committee for the Society for Health Administration Programs in Education (SHAPE).
