Biography
I am a landscape ecologist and spatial data scientist with a focus on the interdependence between human and natural systems in tropical interconnected landscapes and seascapes. My goal is to develop an integrative, transdisciplinary understanding of these places and translate that knowledge into practical tools for communities and governments.
My background spans academia, applied research and government, and includes seascape ecology and the development of ecological theory, working with Australian Institute of Marine Science and Traditional Owners to establish a fish monitoring program for the seascapes of the Great Barrier Reef, harnessing new data streams for data-poor reef fisheries in Pacific island countries, and building spatial decision-support tools to guide marine spatial planning efforts in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
My research focus now is on understanding landscape sustainability in the coastal tropics to provide data-rich spatial decision support for marine spatial planning and livelihood futures in the Solomon Islands.
