Biography
Dr. Mehdi Khatamifar received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from James Cook University in 2018. His doctoral research focused on the numerical investigation of conjugate natural convection boundary layers, with practical applications in building heat transfer, ventilation, HVAC systems, and solar energy technologies. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Khatamifar joined James Cook University as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, where he continues to advance research and teaching in thermal-fluid sciences.
His research interests include computational fluid dynamics, buoyancy-driven and turbulent flows, natural convection, thermal management systems such as heat sinks and heat exchangers, additive manufacturing of innovative heat-dissipating materials, solar thermal energy, and sustainable building design including heating, ventilation, and facade optimization. Additionally, Dr. Khatamifar works extensively on structural design, dynamic mechanical systems, and the engineering of industrial safety structures to ensure robust, reliable, and safe infrastructure solutions.
PhD Scholarships
I am looking for dedicated and academically strong candidates interested in pursuing a PhD in fields related to my research. Scholarships are available to support motivated students through a competitive selection process at James Cook University.
Whether you are completing Honours, Master’s, or planning to start your PhD, I encourage you to reach out to discuss research opportunities that can be tailored to your background and interests.
To initiate a conversation about potential projects aligned with my work, please email me your CV, academic transcripts, proof of English proficiency (if you are an international student), and any recent publications you may have.
Each year, JCU awards scholarships to the highest-ranked applicants, so submitting a strong application is essential. International candidates should also explore the International Research Training Program (IRTP) Scholarship, designed specifically for overseas research students.
More information about application procedures, scholarship details, and deadlines can be found on the Graduate Research School’s website.
Keep in mind that the application deadline for international PhD scholarships is usually at the end of August.
