Biography
I have broad interests in the use of molecular techniques for detection of pathogenic microbes and identification and characterisation of viruses, as well a strong interest in the development of bacteriophage for use as biocontrol agents (phage therapy). From an educational standpoint, I am interested in the development and use of technologies in teaching, particularly in the teaching of molecular microbiology. In addition I have an interest in assisting students in cross disciplinary research involving microbial components.
One current research project involves molecular characterisation of viral diseases in aquatic invertebrates. This includes examination of genomes for identification of new viruses, developing an understanding of how these viruses work as well as examining new methods of controlling disease. I also have a current project involving utilising phage therapy to control ear infections in dogs.
