Biography
Dr Jasmine Jaffrés is a hydroclimatologist, working full-time for C&R Consulting (Townsville) as principal environmental data analyst. Her research is focussing on extreme weather events (floods, tropical cyclones, bushfires, etc.), catchment behaviour, water quality and (data) quality control. Jasmine's research interests further extend to other types of natural hazards (e.g. tsunamis), and weather/climate association of environmental diseases.
Jasmine is an adjunct at James Cook University. She also has ongoing research projects with colleagues at CSIRO, the Bureau of Meteorology and various universities (e.g. UTAS). She has co-supervised a PhD student to completion at Central Queensland University (Assessing the spatial and temporal characteristics of cyclone tracks along the east coast of Australia). Jasmine has also informally mentored several PhD candidates at James Cook University.
Data Science / Technical Skills
Jasmine has extensive experience in management of large datasets (big data), application programming and statistical analyses (e.g. non-parametric tests, dimension reduction and clustering). MATLAB is her programming language of choice, although she has also applied R, Python and Excel (XLSTAT) for previous studies. Jasmine has also had some exposure to deep learning procedures. For data visualisation, she applies a wide range of software, including both QGIS and ArcGIS, along with Adobe Illustrator.
