Biography
A/Prof Janice Lloyd teaches behaviour, husbandry and welfare science to all 5 years of the undergraduate veterinary science degree program. A/Prof Lloyd’s research interests are human-animal relationships with a focus on service dogs, companion animal behaviour problems, and the behaviour and welfare of various species. A/Prof Lloyd also has a special interest in veterinary curricular development, computer-aided learning, scenario-based learning, and questionnaire design and analysis. She led the team that won the overall JCU citation for outstanding contributions for student learning in 2017, and she went on to receive a national award for teaching future veterinarians to incorporate 'low stress handling' techniques into their everday practice. She and her teammates won a JCU 2021 Award for Excellence for Leadership for coordinating the final and capstone year of the BVSc program during the COVID-19 emergency.
A/Prof Lloyd is acknowledged as a Category 1 research grant recipient (OLT ID13-2833 - Innovation & Development). Along with an Animal Welfare and Ethics scientist from each of Australasia’s eight veterinary schools, she was awarded $480K of funding from the Office of Learning and Teaching for a project entitled: ‘Nationally shared curriculum resources for veterinary undergraduate learning in animal welfare and ethics'.
