Gary Jones

Dr Gary Jones has global experience as a senior advisor with the United Nations and non-governmental organizations, the private sector and academia. As a researcher, Gary has engaged in health, education and livelihood sectors involving host, resident, mobile, and displaced populations. Framed within the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, Gary collaborates with diverse partnerships on building the evidence for addressing continuing inequalities and broadening understanding of individual and collective resilience in such matters as climate change, population movement and urbanization.

Gary has been a guest lecturer at Nairobi University (qualitative research), Deakin University (humanitarian emergencies), Makerere University (migrant health), James Cook University (sexual and reproductive health), Hamburg University (epidemiology) and at the University of the 3rd Age (inter-cultural communication).

Gary has a bachelor’s degree (hons) in social studies, Coventry University; a master's degree (distinction) in social development, Reading University; and a PhD in HIV and perceptions of resilience among young people, James Cook University.

Gary also facilitates research and participatory decision making as Global Advisor at the World Dignity University Initiative (Oslo University), Board Member at The Slum Child Foundation (Kenya) and Women’s Peace Initiative (South Sudan), and as a resource person and advisor to the Africa Association (QLD) and Maisha Bora (FNQ).
