Biography

Ethan Kane Waters completed his Electrical & Electronics Engineering Honours thesis at James Cook University in 2022, earning the C.N. Barton medal for best Engineering Thesis at JCU and runner-up best engineering thesis seminar in the state of Queensland, Australia. In 2023, he began working as a Research & Development Engineer at JCU and CSIRO, focusing on software systems, machine learning, and geospatial data processing pipelines for agriculture and marine science. Ethan is currently a Chief Investigator for the Sugar-AI project, leading the development of machine learning algorithms and a prototype software system for diagnosing sugarcane disease with multispectral satellite images.
